Building Momentum: Highlights from the Sold-Out 2025 Mat-Su Fall Economic Conference

The Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce was proud to host a sold-out 2025 Mat-Su Fall Economic Conference on October 15th at Evangelo’s, welcoming 150 business leaders, policymakers, and community stakeholders for a high-impact day focused on the future of the Mat-Su economy.

In partnership with the City of Wasilla and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, this second annual Fall Conference reinforced the region’s commitment to thoughtful growth, responsible development, and strategic collaboration.

🏗️ Forward-Looking Dialogue

The day began with welcoming remarks from Wasilla Mayor Glenda Ledford, setting the tone for a day rooted in partnership and progress. Commissioner John Boyle of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources then delivered a powerful keynote, highlighting key issues and opportunities around land use, access, and energy.

Throughout the afternoon, attendees heard updates on transformational regional projects, including:

  • Wasilla Water Interchange & Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • West Susitna Access and ANWR development (with insights from AIDEA)
  • Port MacKenzie’s long-term potential
  • Emerging energy infrastructure in the Valley

Following lunch and interactive networking, Mat-Su Borough Mayor Edna DeVries welcomed attendees back and introduced a panel on Resource Development in the Mat-Su, featuring dynamic conversations around energy, exploration, and environmental stewardship.

💬 From the Chamber

“This conference reflects the growing enthusiasm and momentum we’re seeing in the Valley,” said Jessica Viera, CEO of the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce. “By bringing together leaders and visionaries from across sectors, we’re shaping what economic success looks like—for today and for generations to come.”

🤝 Stronger Together

The Mat-Su Fall Economic Conference is more than a day of presentations—it’s a forum for connection. With a packed room and strong representation from business, government, and nonprofit leaders, the conversations happening during the breaks and over lunch were just as impactful as those on the stage.
