Mat-Su Forward: A Powerful Look at the State of the Borough

On August 5th, the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce hosted a sold-outMat-Su Forward: State of the Borough” luncheon at Evangelo’s in Wasilla—and the room was full of energy, optimism, and meaningful insight.

With attendees packed into the venue, the event offered a rare opportunity for business leaders, elected officials, and community members to hear directly from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Directors. Each department head shared key updates and plans, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges, accomplishments, and bold goals that will shape our rapidly growing region.

The presentations were informative and forward-thinking, covering everything from infrastructure and planning to public safety, economic development, and community services. Attendees walked away not just better informed—but energized.

“Our Borough is in an exciting phase of growth, and today’s discussion showcased the dedication and vision of our leaders,” said Jessica Viera, CEO of the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce. “We’re proud to host events like this that strengthen the connection between our businesses, our government, and our future.”

One of the most inspiring moments came when attendees were asked:
“What one word would you use to describe the Mat-Su Borough?”
The most common responses were:
“Growing,” “Good,” “Proud,” “Excited,” “Growth,” and “Great.”

These words reflect the momentum and optimism that is shaping our community’s evolution—from its “Frontier” roots into a dynamic, modern borough with an expanding economic landscape.

Tammy Hansen, Chair of the Greater Wasilla Chamber Board, added:
“Our community business members showed up in force to hear from all the MSB departments. Growing from a ‘Frontier’ to an ‘Urban’ community takes a lot of work and MSB is doing a great job for all of us.”

Thank You

The Chamber extends its sincere thanks to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Directors for their transparency and vision, and to the attendees whose strong presence shows the value of civic and economic collaboration.

Events like this reinforce our mission as the leader in advocating for a business climate that fosters positive economic growth and prosperity.

Stay tuned for future advocacy-focused events, forums, and conferences—because together, we are Mat-Su Forward.
